Each year, The Texas Historical Foundation board selects one preservation project, with broad statewide appeal, to which it provides fundraising support. The project is promoted to THF members by means of mail solicitation and promotion in HERITAGE magazine. Every dollar received by THF is turned over to the sponsoring non-profit organization. To date, THF has provided funds to the following projects and organizations:
- 2007, Armstrong County Museum, Claude, to save the 1887 house that rancher and trailblazer Charles Goodnight built in the Texas Panhandle so that it can become the centerpiece of the Charles Goodnight Interpretive Historical Center
- 2008, Millard’s Crossing Historic Village, Nacogdoches, to help preserve the documents, antique structures, artifacts, and furniture in this historic village complex
- 2009, Texas Frontier Heritage & Cultural Center, Buffalo Gap, for restoration of the interior of the 1879 Reddell/Boone House at Buffalo Gap Historic Village
