THF NEWS
THF Grant Project Update: On January 27, 2012, the Texas Historical Commission approved Old Oak Cliff Conservation League’s application to place a historical marker at the location where Officer J.D.Tippit was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald, shortly after the assassination of President Kennedy. The Dallas Independent School District donated a small piece of land on the corner of Tenth Street and Patton for the placement of the historical marker, as well as a live oak tree and irrigation for the site. The OOCCL received a Texas Historical Foundation grant to cover costs to install a bench, paver stones, and landscaping for a reflection area near the marker. The dedication of the marker is planned for November 22, 2012, the 49th anniversary of Officer Tippit's death.
